Nutrition Detective
Dr. Garrett Smith
"I consider myself a teacher of health and nutrition at heart."
For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to understand how the human body works.
That curiosity first led me into the strength and conditioning world, where I spent more than a decade helping people improve their performance through movement and nutrition. It didn't take long to realize that nutrition was often the missing piece. Two people could follow the same plan and experience completely different results.
I wanted to understand why.
That question eventually led me to pursue naturopathic medicine and dedicate my career to helping people navigate chronic health challenges.
As I worked with more patients, I noticed something that deeply frustrated me. Many people were doing everything they had been told to do—taking supplements, following diets, seeing specialists—and yet they still weren't finding the progress they hoped for.
I couldn't accept that "this is just the way it is."
Instead of settling for average answers, I began spending countless hours reading scientific literature, questioning long-held assumptions, and following the evidence wherever it led. That process has shaped the work I continue today.
I don't believe health should be approached with rigid protocols or one-size-fits-all solutions.
Every individual has a unique history, unique challenges, and unique physiology. My role is to help uncover what may be contributing to those challenges while teaching people how to better understand their own bodies.
More than anything, I consider myself an educator.
Whether I'm working with someone in a consultation, speaking to the Love Your Liver community, or creating educational content, my goal is always the same: to help people think critically, ask better questions, and feel empowered to take an active role in their health.
Helping people feel better is incredibly rewarding.
Helping them understand why they feel better is even more meaningful.
